African Winter Carp
For some anglers Winter can not come too soon. The smaller fish hang out somewhere and the big fish graze around slowly in search of some much needed protein to boost energy levels. This is the time to catch some possible PBs and enjoy the changing season outdoors.
Karpioene recently did a string of sessions at private venues around the north of South Africa. One of which is the Toplake of the well known Kwaggashoek which holds some of the biggest carp in South Africa. This promising venue will be open to Specimen anglers in the summer of 2017 and will be independently managed by the luxury Lodge owners.
On one of our sessions we had the privilege of meeting some pretty cool anglers, one of which was Marc Williams and his mate Luigi who were testing their new baits called Phycho Baits – a belachan infused boilie which promises to take the SA carp scene by storm – look out for the launch of these baits! They work.
On the other side of things Karpieone fished with the very successful BTA Boilies from Jay Jay Esterhuizen – which put us on to the fish on the 2nd day and we managed to bag some beauties on Hurricane Naartjie boilies and the new potent Earthquake boilies – all hookbaits were glugged in the matching flavours and this won the fish over.
Other baits that worked for us as hooklbaits were the killer DB tigernuts – PineapleX and as always Sweetcorn flavour over some particles and boilie crumb.
