Buffelspoort Bigtime Bonanza 2018

Every year anglers from all over South Africa get together to tackle one of the most iconic Big Carp Waters in SA, Buffelspoort Dam. The Buffelspoort Bigtime Bonanza is one of the more popular Carp tournaments which is organised by the Bigtime Angling team every year.

The 2018 tournament saw 33 teams compete – where only the 3 biggest fish counts. As always the angling was tough and from it took some time for the swims to kick in but once the teams found the fish the action kept coming thick and fast. Zone 1 (right at the baot launch section) was unusually busy and the teams on the first few swims were into the fish early in the game. EG Sillands from Protein Solution was quick off the mark and managed to catch a few really stunning carp incl a number of mirrors with one mirror coming in at 12.60kg. Immanuel Janse van Rensburg is also no stranger to big fish and managed to catch the biggest one for the tournament of 13.3kg  on the 2nd day.

In Zone 3, which was the far side of the bank, the guys were also getting into some nice fish on the 2nd day but mostly smaller carp. The Zone 3 teams had a number of obstacles to overcome including large amounts of grass on the far side and extreme line pressure with almost 13 teams sharing a 200m piece of bank. But between skilled anglers like Wayne Malan, Danie Claasens and Sean Tucker they managed to still land a few awesome specimens in that section.

But it was the team of Wikus Terblance and Basie Kirston on Peg no 1 – who managed to sneak a few 12kg+ fish onto the bank and by the final night were leading the way. They managed to finish in 1st Place overall with a Total weight of 36.25kg (for their 3 biggest fish) Team Bigtime Angling – Wayne Malan and Ike Eksteen finished in 2nd place and the Protein Solution gents were in 3rd overall. Zone winners were Karpioene in Zone 2, Bigtime Angling in Zone 3 and of course the tournament winners in Zone 1

All in all it was a great event and the spirits were high throughout the week. For more information on the Bigtime Angling events visit their facebook page here
