This year we saw the very first Prologic Monster Carp Series take place at Roodeplaat Dam in Pretoria. The venue is well known amongst conventional anglers but considered as a small fish venue amongst Specimen Anglers. But we as Specimen Anglers know that the monsters are everywhere – you just have to know how and where to target them. The Monster Carp Series put anglers to the test to see who can get these big girls on the bank in a competitive tournament over 4 days.

The result was a very tough and challenging tournament but extremely enjoyable and rewarding. As the days progressed the fish kept getting bigger and bigger and it was a race between Team Shimano – Quintin Louw and Wynand Fourie and Team Cypri – Edward Steyn, Chris Oliaro and their runner Matt Phillips. Cypri landed a nice fish of 9.78 on the last night and as morning broke Team Shimano were into the fish and landed one after the other just under the 9kg mark. 5 min before the final whistle blew they had another take and this fish was putting a proper battle – as fate would have it this fish was also just under 9kg and placed them in 2nd place behind Cypri who was crowned the 2017 Prologic Monster Carp Series 2017
Look out for the next round in Summer 2018
