Street fishing for Carp in Krugers
Just on the western outskirts of Gauteng sits the buzzling town of Krugersdorp. This town is no stanger to anglers or to carp and have a few very nice spots to fish. This is a story of a quick 3 hour session one night after work with my good buddy Franna who stays close by. We only wanted to see if we can catch something for the night and we were blessed to land a few goodies
Franna often fishes this dam and had told me that a young angler caught a nice 10kg carp there only a few days earlier. So without thinking twice I packed my gear and headed over to Krugersdorp for a short night session after work. I got there before the other gents and quickly chucked a line in close to the snag whilst getting set up. This sometimes pays off and to my surprize….not even 10 minutes in the rod screamed off. I obviously wasnt ready for such a quick take and found myself fighting what felt like a decent carp but could feel the devestating feeling of line scraping past a snag. The fish pulled for a few minutes and then nothing… I lost it. But nevertheless i quickly got that line back on the spot and was fishing again.
Soon after the gents arrived I was in again and landed a nice little Krugers common. This was to be one of 5 fish for the night. After the first fish we enjoyed a solid chicken vetkoek that Franna hooked up at a nearby local takeaway. The second fish came about an hour later and it was a very nice yellow coloured common of about 8kg. Just before heading home I managed to bag one last small common. Not bad for a quick night session. I left the guys not so late and was able to get home at 9:30. Franna and Monroe stayed on and both also managed to catch a carp before leaving which unfortunately i could capture on film but made the whole trip worth it for all of us.
Next time you get that sudden urge to catch a carp, dont think twice. It might just be the session you have been waiting for.
