Struben Short Sessions Part 1
In the middel on the busy Pretoria East Menlyn area sits one of the most beautiful park lakes in South Africa – Its called the Struben Dam Bird Estuary and its open to the public for fishing, dag walks and birding.
The dam is about the size of a Rugby field andĀ holds 7 swims which can all be fished to the opposite bank which is reserved for bird nesting, making it an ideal spot for Carp. In 2014 the Dam suffered a devastating spill which killed most of the resident Carp including a 12kg mirror and other big boys.
But a year later i visited the lake just to see if there was life and sure enough some fish were caught that day which meant that some of the fish survived the spill. I was very happy to see that and so we set out one friday afternoon to go fish and filmed the 3 hour session with everything we got.
Here is what happened.
