Just upstream from Rietvlei Dam lies a very secret and secluded farm dam that not only ticks all the boxes for anglers but certainly promises to become one of the favourite fishing destinations in Pretoria. Alwyn Dam is a privately owned Farm dam tucked into the secluded hills or Pretoria East, Bashewa. The dam has been kept secret for a long time but have recently become more well known amongst the local angling community. Eventhough the fish are not yet massive you can easily catch a 20 pounder and enjoy a fun day at the water side.

THE DAM

The Dam caters for all facets of angling including Conventional and Specimen Anglers. It has 15 swims available to choose from all in close proximity to each other. The dam sits on the Sesmyl spruit that feeds Rietvlei Dam and is 1.13km across from one end to the other. And 200m from the angling bank to the other side. Its not very deep water and the bottom is mostly soft mud. Features are also few and far between so makre sure you do some good feature finding in order to get the bites.

BAIT

Because the venue caters for all facets of carp anglers you can never go wrong with the old faithful Mielies and Tigernuts. Nothing fancy needed here. Hookbaits that work is flavoured tigernut topped with yellow fake maize. Mielie stringers also do some damage.
