The Venue

Bergsig Trout Farm is situated in Muldersdrift just outside of Johannesburg and is a great Carp Fishing venue that offers some truely massive fish. Bergsig has a Specimen Dam which is the main body of water and also 3 smaller dams along with the Crocodile river that runs through it allowing for any and every angler a chance of catching a monster carp. Beginner Specimen anglers seem to like this venue because of its small size but do not be fooled by its size as this venue can really be difficult at times.

The Venue used to be a Specimen only dam but has recently opened up for both Conventional and Specimen anglers and have increased the number of swims to be able to fish from any angle on the dam.

Bait that worked for us:
Psycho original plain
Psycho mutant plain
Psycho krill with spicy krill pop up..

The Dam is not very big in size – about the size of a rugby field and used to be a trout dam for flyfishing but after seeing the size of the carp (lake record over 19kg) the local carp anglers started taking over and it became an dedicated specimen venue. There are smaller dams on the property as well as a nice piece of river to fish for carp. Some good fish have been caught in the other dams as well.

Fish are very attractive and average weight is around 14kg of fish and if they in the mood for feeding you can easily catch 5 on a session.
Very nice venue and recommended to all anglers who love big carp and beautiful settings.
