Carp Haven also known as Bass O’ Mania of old is a private specimen angling venue nestled neatly between farm lands and plantations just north of Bronkhorstspruit. This venue is a private venue and membership is a necessity before starting your quest to land a few fatties on the bank.
The venue is by no stretch of the imagination an easy venue. The fish seem to switch on or off faster than you can say “one toner”. It’s important to do your homework on the venue and to take note of the weather conditions before your session. This will give you an indication where the fish will be hiding and the tactics to be applied during your session. If you get it right, rocking sessions can be had with fish ranging between 6kg and 15kg.
Bait
From past experience and for the anglers who regularly fish this venue, baits usually consist of boilies or tigers as hook baits and a mixture of boilies and particles as your feed. Personally we have had great success of the following:
Psycho baits Original boilies
Psycho baits Skitzo boilies
Various flavoured tigernuts
Dam
Swims 1 to 3 provide you with more margin fishing as the water is not as deep as the remaining swims. Swim 4 gives you access to margins, deeper water and the dam wall whereas swims 5 – 7 provide you with deep water and opposite bank margins. There is also the notorious “kliphuis” swim which makes camping a breeze when our South African weather decided to reek havoc on the plains. Many a tent and gazebo have seen the stratosphere at this venue and therefore it is always wise to come prepared.
